The Daily Feather — Tommy Boy Warns of April Madness
[Tommy is stuck in the middle of a lake on a sailboat with no wind. He looks up to the sky to talk to his Dad]
Tommy: Dad, we got a little problem here. I've been stuck out here for an hour with no wind again. I'm supposed to be at Michelle’s for dinner.
[laughs]
Tommy: So, if you could give me a little help, I would appreciate it. If not, don’t worry about it. I’m trying to do everything I think you would be doing. And so far it's going pretty good. I just want to tell you that I still love you and I sure miss you a lot.
[the wind appears]
Tommy: Hey, thanks Dad!
[Tommy gets hit in the head with the mainsail]
Tommy: Oh! Son-of-a! That's gonna leave a mark!
Critics get paid to be critical. But sometimes you just have to roll with the crowd. In the case of the 1995 comedy Tommy Boy, starring Chris Farley and David Spade, we vote with the 90% audience score from Rotten Tomatoes which is 50 points north of the stingy, stodgy critics. Farley’s trademark ‘That’s gonna leave a mark!’ is forever embedded in our collective psyches at QI. So much so, it was the inspiration for the title of today’s first chart on this nonfarm payrolls Friday. Nothing in consensus expectations – another payroll gain above 200,000, an unemployment rate below the Federal Reserve’s 4.0% yearend threshold, and a sequentially benign pickup in earnings would stop bond yields that are itching to move higher.
