They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and in our view, there are few pleasures in life as great (or as calorie-dense) as the American diner variety. Our go-to order: a cup of black coffee (preferably in an old ceramic mug), two eggs (scrambled with cheese), sausage links, and a side of crispy hash browns. And, the piéce de résistance: a short stack of pancakes. In our experience, the humbler a restaurant’s interiors, the better the food. A QI favorite, breakfast-wise, is The Bunnery, located in the heart of Jackson, Wyoming. Tourists and locals alike wait in the long line out front for the diner’s claim to fame: pancakes of the “O.S.M” variety (“O” for oat, “S” for sunflower seed, and “M” for millet). The crunchy, savory texture, combined with the sweetness of fresh maple syrup poured over top, makes for a delectable combination… one best enjoyed after an early morning hike in Grand Teton National Park.

While we wish we could be devouring stacks of O.S.M. pancakes in the Cowboy State this week, we’ll be watching from afar as Powell & Co. head to Teton County for the Kansas City Federal Reserve’s annual Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium. All eyes and ears will be on the Fed Chair when he speaks Friday morning for further clues as to the FOMC’s plans for September. As of this writing, rates traders have a quarter-point cut priced in at a 92% likelihood.
