National Whiners Day is upon us! Every December 26th affords us the opportunity to air our gripes freely. Santa’s delivery service stiffed you? Too tired? Overate? Bowl game loss? Return lines long too at the store? Is your not favorite aunt still at the house, even the day after? You name it. You’ve got license on #NationalWhinersDay. There are, might we gently suggest, two no-nos, at least for those of us who have everything we need: 1) No whining about what you did, or did not, get for Christmas 2) Remember what you do have. That second part drives at why Reverend Kevin Zaborney created the day in 1986 -- to encourage people to be thankful for what they do have. If those surrounding you are going overboard in the whining department, take comfort in today also being National Candy Cane Day. Even better, pack a few in your pocket and hand out the red and white striped peppermint sticks to squelch the whining.
We can only imagine the whining at DFW early Tuesday morning that preceded Christmas Day. As American Airlines can attest, the end-of-year holiday season is a traditional time to travel. And while we depicted in Tuesday’s Feather U.S. households’ plans to scale back on vacations over the next six months, the narrative doesn’t end there. In the spirit of the day, we macro forecasters are thankful for Lightcast’s weekly job postings. Demand for workers in the Leisure & Hospitality industry has continued to grind lower as 2024 winds down.
